We stayed for one night in May 2021. Check in was fast and we got room 7 in the original building – the junior suite. The room was not extremely large but once you walk in you get a stunning view of the lake outside through the large windows. There was one single bed as you enter the room, a small desk, a tiny TV on the wall and a double bed on the other side of the room. The TV was quite small at least if you wanted to look at it from the bed but then again, I guess you do not come here to watch TV. There was no art on the walls and according to the owners, this intentional as the design makes you focus on what is outside the windows – the beautiful Norwegian landscape. There were two chairs facing the window and a small table – I guess made for sitting down to just enjoy the view. The bathroom was large but a bit old school but had a bathtub, shower corner and it also included shower gel and shampoo. This is an old hotel, so the soundproofing is not perfect. There was wifi in the hotel and it was fast. The main restaurant features more of the brutalist and minimalistic design from the room – again large windows that gives you amazing views of the lake and mountains. And right outside the windows, a large terrace with chairs allowing you to enjoy the view and getting fresh air. When it gets dark – you can rest your eyes on the large fireplace with a big golden square hovering above it. This restaurant looks like it was taken straight out of a James Bond movies from the 1960s! The hotel can offer a package deal with room and dinner and we opted for the 4-course dinner with focus on local food. And this was a great dinner with aquavit marinated young goat, beetroot soup, salmon, and a creamy pudding with berries. The area offers hiking, and the hotel had several suggestions on where to go. We enjoyed a nice walk and got to meet the local wildlife (aka sheep) on out short hike. I enjoyed the stay here! Many historic hotels can just be old, worn out hotels. But this hotel was fascinating as it is a design icon from a different time but has kept the design atmosphere and it just made it intriguing. And I loved the fact that it was possible to get a package deal with room and dinner! We would love to return to this place one day to enjoy the view again and go for more hikes.
